Curriculum Statement - Intent, Implementation & Impact 2023-2024

ASHURST CE AIDED PRIMARY SCHOOL  VSION STATEMENT

Guided by our Christian values of Love, Hope and Joy, we endeavour to motivate and inspire children to become lifelong, resilient, successful and enthusiastic learners.  We aim to nurture and support every pupil to meet the challenges of our rich, diverse and ever-changing world, and to be responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.  We encourage all pupils to become happy, confident individuals who are able to live, safe healthy and fulfilling lives.

Our vision is rooted in biblical text found in 1 John 3:18
'Let us not love in words or speech but in actions and in truth'.

CURRICULUM STATEMENT

INTENT

In collaboration with the whole school community, we have developed a broad, balanced, creative and engaging curriculum based on the National Curriculum programmes of study.
At Ashurst CE Primary School:
  • Our curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on previous learning.
  • We constantly strive to make learning inspirational and meaningful for all pupils.
  • Our curriculum is made memorable by a range of visits and first-hand experiences, and made relevant by making links between subjects where appropriate.
  • We broaden our pupils horizons by exploring concepts that encourage them to think about their place in the world and to develop their role as global citizens.
IMPLEMENTATION

Lessons are planned using our medium - and long-term plans which identify the National Curriculum area being studied in each subject.
  • They are carefully planned and adapted using the teacher's detailed knowledge of each child, to ensure that learning is appropriately challenging and accessible for all.
  • Day-to-day, ongoing assessment is used to inform future planning for all children
  • We use adult and peer feedback as part of the teaching and learning cycle.
IMPACT

At Ashurst CE Aided Primary School, we carefully balance the requirements for pupils to reach national expectations in core subjects, with our wider curriculum aims of providing a full spectrum of thoughtful and enriching experiences alongside offering children carefully mapped progression of skills within all curriculum areas.  We measure the impact of our curriculum using a range of assessment methods:
  • Feedback and making written work
  • Observation
  • Tests
  • Conversations with pupils
  • Subject Assessment
  • Moderation
  • Pupil and parent questionnaires
Children leave Ashurst CE Aided Primary School with the ability to make decisions, self-evaluate and make connections.  They know how to be responsible, stay safe and how to make positive contributions to the local and wider community.  We aim for our children to leave Ashurst CE Aided Primary School as respectful, skilful and ambitious learners who endeavour to be the best they can be.
